2020 "INTERMEZZO" CABERNET - NAPA VALLEY

In the glass, this Cabernet is dark and opaque ruby with a magenta hue. On the nose, this wine is expressive with notes of blackberry, plum, and cassis that balance the savory, woodsy and perfume-like finesse. The palate starts off like a controlled explosion of bright red fruits and minerality. The body is full and expansive, but not overpowering. As this Cabernet opens up, it reveals notes of black raspberry, crushed plum, fig, and juicy black cherry. The finish displays a kaleidoscope of oak, baking spices, and sweet vanilla. From start to finish, this Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is like a collision of old Bordeaux tradition and Napa Valley flare. Enjoy this wine now and over the next several years with ease.

Each bottle of Intermezzo Cabernet is individually numbered 1-750.

VINTAGE & VINEYARD
2020 started with only a few inches of rain, yet was followed by a very warm and dry growing season. Cold nights and warm days allowed grapes to retain their natural acidity while sugars ripened evenly. The vintage is characterized by low yields with perfect flavors and quality, sustained until wildfires came mere days after harvest was completed at the winery. Caldwell Vineyard is a 65-acre site in the most Southeastern edge of Napa. Classified as the second coolest sub-appellation (of the 16) in Napa Valley, Coombsville enjoys a long growing season that produces more lush and ethereal styled Cabernets. John Caldwell planted this site in 1982 with the original grafted grapevine clones of Cabernet he smuggled in from Bordeaux. Since then, his grapes have gone on to produce not only the stunning wines for his own winery–Caldwell Vineyards, but also many other esteemed labels in Napa Valley.  I am delighted to offer this stand alone vintage, Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Caldwell Vineyard.
